I recently joined and became the 1000th member of the Pittsburgh Green Building Alliance (GBA). I am pretty much a local celebrity! They wanted to get my picture and talk about me a bit in their news letter. It was fun showing up at the lunch & learn for the Pittsburgh 2030 District. Everyone was so excited to meet me!
The GBA is an organization that work to create a greener, healthier, environment around the city. Primarily working with local and new buildings making them more energy efficient. It’s a great organization that has a variety of events throughout the city to help bring together architects, builders, engineers, city planners and a wide range of other people who are dedicated to improving the city of Pittsburgh.
I’d attended various Pittsburgh Green Building Alliance events over the past few months. There’s a great mix of young, energetic, smart people involved that really have a passion for helping improve the community. The events range from volunteer charity type things, to educational speakers, to social networking type of events. They have stuff going on all throughout the month and it’s a rapidly growing organization that I’m really excited to be involved with.
Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring has been involved in LEED certified building throughout the country an example in Pittsburgh is the Fairmont Hotel . It was developed in the heart of the city in the cultural district to be developed according to sustainable building standards they used our local FSC certified hardwood for the flooring in part of the restaurant / bar area. Hardwood Flooring is one of the greeniest flooring options available, especially local FSC certified flooring, and hopefully with working with the GBA we can get this wonderful product throughout numerous more LEED certified buildings throughout the city!
