Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring and the Hickman Family Have Always put the Environment First
Since Harry Hickman started logging in the 1930′s until today, the Hickman family has always cared for and respected our hardwood forests as a valuable, renewable resource worth protecting. The image above shows a newspaper clipping from the 1950s of Harry Hickman receiving a forestry award from the Tree Farm Association. People don’t always realize that we’re more about growing trees than cutting them down.
Larry Hickman has always maintained that proper timber management is like tending a garden. You do everything you can to help your crop grow ripe for harvest. Through responsible management, mature trees are selectively harvested making room for nearby saplings and regeneration to spring up in its place. If you were to leave these mature trees alone they would inhibit the growth of surrounding timber, they would die and/or fall over possibly taking other healthy trees with it. In other words… they’d go to waste. Of course there’s more to it than that. Learn more about how we take care of our hardwood forests, how environmentally friendly you can be when ordering your hardwood flooring and what our FSC certification means to you. You can be sure that your Allegheny Mountain Hardwood Flooring comes from responsibly managed timberlands.
